A Film and Television Production Company

Coyote Pass Productions was formed with the express purpose of creating quality entertainment featuring Latino characters in stories that would appeal to audiences in both the mainstream American market as well as the rapidly growing domestic and international Hispanic markets.

Our first project, OUT OF ORDER, a short filmed subject, has won both critical and popular acclaim. It was featured as one of the highlights of the American Film Institute's Thirteenth Annual Film and Video Festival and the First Annual International Latino Film and Video Festival. It received a Diamond Award Nomination from the Southern California Cable Association and it's producer, M.E. Dolan and director, Luis Remesar, were honored by the Los Angeles City Council for their contribution to improving the image of Latinos in the media.

"NOBODY WANTS TO KISS AN ASHTRAY"

Most recently Coyote Pass Productions has completed a public service announcement for the American Lung Association designed to counteract the tobacco industry's efforts to attract teenagers by glamorizing the use of cigarette smoking. "Nobody Wants To Kiss An Ashtray" uses humor and special effects to turn a beautiful young girl into a hideous monster with a mouthful of cigarette butts just as her non-smoking boyfriend is about to kiss her. The PSA was shot in both English and Spanish. Watch for it airing nationally.

"JUAN FOR ALL"

An animated comedy series geared to an adult audience, about a clash of cultures within a bilingual, dysfunctional family.   A microcosm of the ever-bubbling melting pot that is modern American society, the series aims to expand minds and educate by lampooning prejudicial isms (racism, sexism, etc.), stereotypes, ignorance and assumptions, as well as social, political and ethical issues with a heaping dose of irreverence.

Headstrong, Cuban immigrant, Juan Morales lives in Miami with his sensible, Mexican-American wife, Carmen, their Americanized daughter, Yoli, and Yoli's surfer-dude, Anglo husband, Brad.  Additionally, Carmen's mother, Clotilde and Juan's father, Ignacio are also in the mix.  Both Ignacio and Clotilde are truly “old world”, each clinging to their home country’s culture with a vengeance.  Consequently, neither speaks a lick of English, and Brad is clueless when it comes to Spanish.

With the proven success of adult animation and the freedom it affords, we feel JUAN FOR ALL is poised to be a barrier-breaking comedy, exposing the mainstream audience to the language and cultures of this diverse, growing component of America, in a less threatening way than a live-action series would.

Seen through the eyes of Harvey, the family dog and Stella, the cat, JUAN FOR ALL can easily be described as FAMILY GUY meets KING OF THE HILL -- in Spanglish.

Presently, we have the following projects in completed script form:

"BUILT IN AMERICA"

A Latino GODFATHER for television. This one-hour dramatic pilot features an immigrant Cuban family in New York running a successful construction business. Three distinct generations, their vastly different outlooks and values foster the conflicts that threaten to tear them apart.

"ALWAYS THERE"

This half-hour dramady pilot is an inter-cultural WONDER YEARS. A female, coming-of-age story, ALWAYS THERE weaves the past (told through the deceased Jodie's diary) and the present as it parallels the friendship of two thirteen year-olds, Irish-American, Ellen and Cuban immigrant, Jodie, coping with adolescence in 1978, with the relationship of an adult Ellen and her own thirteen year-old daughter, Meg, in the new millenium.

"I'M NOT LUCY!"

A half-hour situation comedy (for film), dealing with modern, intercultural relationships, best described as a MAD ABOUT YOU meets I LOVE LUCY. Roberta, a thirty-something, strong-willed and passionate redhead, is married to Cuban-American comic, Izrael "Iz" Diaz, mid-thirties, handsome, level-headed, with a knack for finding the humor in every experience. After years of struggling, the Diaz's have finally made it. Iz owns a successful comedy club and Robbie has returned to college to finish her education.

"DAVIE" (adapted from the novel by Donald McDougall): It's the coming-of-age story of David Crombie, the son of the greenskeeper at the Burnside golf course in Carnoustie, Scotland -- the game's birthplace. Young Davie grows up to be a magnificent golfer, and leaves for America to seek fame and fortune. His provincial upbringing, however, did little to prepare Davie for America in the roaring twenties. Overcoming many obstacles, Davie does manage to rise to the top in the world of golf, and returns home in 1929, to play the British Open, on his home course. The onset of the Great Depression and the death of his father conspire to make this tournament the hardest in Davie's life.

Everyone has a family... The dysfunction's just a matter of degree.

"HOOK, LINE and SINKER"

A dark comedy about death and dealing with one's own mortality the Irish-American way.
